I am attending high school and want to take some courses at VLN. Can I register at VLN?
Yes. All students in Grades 10-12 can register for courses at those grade levels. Students in Grade 8 or 9 must get permission from their home school by filling out the appropriate registration form available on our web site. Because home schools must pay for this course directly to us, they have no obligation to do this if the course you wish is available at the school.
I have completed part of my course at school. Can I take that course at VLN and pick up where I left off?
Yes. You will need to make an appointment with one of our counsellors. Our counsellors will give you the appropriate forms for your counsellor and teachers to complete, telling us which parts of the course you have completed and the marks you received. The counsellor must return the form to VLN. If you are no longer attending school, we will also need a Transfer or Withdrawal form from your school. If you are taking this course and staying in school, we will still require that your principal sign your registration form.
Can I take a course over again to upgrade my mark?
Yes, you may retake a course to upgrade your mark.
If I take a course again, which mark appears in my transcript?
The course mark on your transcript will be the higher mark. If the course is provincially examinable, the higher provincial mark will be blended with the higher course mark, provided they were taken within one year.

How do I register for a Grade 10-12 online and/or print course?
  1. Students must register online for all online and print courses. You can begin the first step by going to the D2L External Self-Registration link.
    • If you already have a User Name and Password login and Self-Register.   If you cannot login or you have forgotten your login information, send an email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please DO NOT create another user.
    • If you are NEW to the VLN choose I do not have a username and password and follow the prompts. You will then receive a User Name and Password that will log you into D2L.
  2. When you register you will choose a course first. For example: Planning 10 Online Spring/Summer 2017.
  3. After you’ve registered you will have access to the class immediately. Scroll down the main page to your My Courses section. Here you will find a link to the class you registered into. For example: Planning 10 Online Spring/Summer 2017. You will have to complete a StartUp Assignment BEFORE you get access to the active course.
  4. Click on the class link and there you will find all the instructions you need to complete and submit the StartUp Assignment. Once it has been marked by your teacher you will be moved into the active class. This may take 2-3 school days.
    • For an online course the active course has all the information you’ll need to complete the assignments, submit work online, etc.
    • For print courses the active course is a place where you can see your grades, contact the teacher, etc. However your work is submitted in person or by mail.
  5. Once your StartUp Assignment has been marked, you will see a additional content and dropboxes for you to complete the course.
  6. Do you need to pick up materials?
    • ONLINE: If your online course does not need any materials then you’re set to go. However if your online course needs you to pick up materials then you need to come into the VLN office to do so.
    • PRINT: All print courses have materials that need to be picked up. You’ll need to come to the VLN office to do so.
How do I register for a Grade 8-9 online and/or print course?
