The prerequisite for this course is a Language Arts 11 (4 credits).
This course explores English through engagement with authentic oral and written First Peoples’ stories and accounts. It recognizes the power of storytelling and voice to the process of reconciliation and fostering justice. Students should be interested in learning about and demonstrating understanding of sophisticated texts, represented in this course solely by authentic First Peoples’ voices (fiction and nonfiction). Students should be further interested in developing skills of writing craft in multiple formats, as well as in-depth literary analysis and higher-level thinking through written and oral mediums.
