Pre-calculus 11, but preferably Pre-calculus 12

Description

The purpose of the AP course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data.

Course Topics/Modules

Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes:

 

1. Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns

2. Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study

3. Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation

4. Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses

 

Students who successfully complete the course and (AP) exam may receive credit, advanced placement or both for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.

Assessment

2-3 assignments per topic above

4 tests (2 online, 2 at VLN)

Resources

All are provided online. Student will need a graphing calculator with statistics functionality (such as the TI models)

Students have access to the course teacher through email, phone and in-person.  Teachers work Monday through Friday.

Completion Date

AP exams are offered in early May of each year, so this is a natural completion date for AP courses.
